Starts tomorrow morning, Wednesday, 18 / May / 2016 forum (road transport and its role in the national economy), organized by Asharqia Chamber under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Prince of the Eastern Province, with the participation of a number of government institutions and private companies representatives. Al Ataishan evaluated to His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Prince of the Eastern Province his sponsorship of the event, saying that the generous patronage by His Highness is what we are used to since long time, and this optimizes the success of this event, and will motivate us towards organizing similar events again in other economic sectors and activities, saying that the patronage evidence of his support for the progress of his business and his support for the prosperity of the national economy in 2030 and the project vision.
Ataishan explained that the Chamber as it holds this event, it proceed from the fact that road transportation is vital sector that many trade and tourism and other activities rely on, and the Chamber with its essential role in the economic life in the Kingdom is seeking hard to spot everything that serves their goals, and supports its purposes for an active private sector, of a high productivity.
Ataishan said that The Land Transportation Forum 2016 will present a number of additions to the sector, especially since many of the participants in the Forum either specialized companies in Land Transportation, or big institutions and companies related to the Transportation sector from different axes.
For his part, Chairman of the Land Transportation and member of the Board of Directors of Asharqia Chamber, Bandar bin Ali Al Jabri said that this forum is one of several events held by the Committee of Land Transportation in Asharqia Chamber, in the plan of the current year 2016, which includes other events, and several meetings and dialogues about a number of related Transportation subject, which handles a big turning point due to the huge increase in Land Transportation projects in the country, including land lines and new rail project, which reflects the commercial and industrial work in the country in this period.
Al Jabri added that Land Transportation, which carries a great importance for the economy in general, at the same time suffering from a number of challenges, most prominently the image of the future in the light of the present, what we are witnessing is a continuous growth and huge projects in the Land Transportation, especially in the railway project, which requires of us as citizens and investors to find out the ways to benefit and the improvement methods and means of increasing the value of these projects, and this is what this forum seeks where it discusses the most important thing in Land Transportation which is its impact on the economy, and the future image of this growing sector .

A recent study issued from the Center for Studies and Research of Asharqia Chamber has recommended to speed in the application of smart transportation systems in the Kingdom in line with the international trend for the application of the intelligent transportation, on the country level and at the regional level and on the level of each city.
The study has presented recommendations especially by the Ministry of Transportation through the development of programs and publicity campaigns regarding the importance of smart transportation for a sustainable economy, and drawing a structure plan of the Land Transportation in the Kingdom and the problems it suffers from, and making a strategy for applying the smart transportation, and working on the application of the intelligent transportation in stages, and will be initially applied in the three major cities, Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, in preparation for the publication of the experience, training and scholarship specialized technical cadres specialized in the smart management and traffic engineering.
It also provided specific recommendations and other government authorities, as should the Ministry of Trade and Investment in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance provide financial support for transportation companies in the Kingdom to encourage them to enhance the smart transportation, also the concerned government departments should complete the legal frameworks concerning intelligent transportation systems in the Kingdom, as the Ministry of Economy and planning and preparation of a strategy for the implementation of smart transportation systems in the Kingdom during the years of the tenth development plan.
A special recommendations have been presented to the municipality Dammam in cooperation with the concerned government agencies to perform: the establishment of information about road data bank in the city of Dammam, and specifying the priority of city of Dammam in the intelligent transportation fields, and developing a strategy to move smart plan in the city of Dammam, and following up and recording the implementation of smart transportation applications in Dammam.
The study also highlighted the necessity to encourage investment in smart transportation related projects, and organizing workshops and expanded meetings specialized in the awareness of the importance of business investment in the intelligent transportation systems sector.
The study was based on several results from the application of smart transportation systems on a group of countries where the useful experiences that smart transport applications was in response to traffic problems in cities, also the experiments has led to achieve more economic and social positive impacts, as the application of the intelligent transportation systems contributes in reducing the amount of the economic and social losses caused by road accidents, and improving safety and security on the roads, as the application of transportation systems leads to a reduction of the number of deaths and injuries caused by transportation accidents, and improves the operation of commercial transportation as it operates intelligent transportation systems at various smart technologies available and possible following the application of e-clearance of commercial vehicles and automatic examination of the safety on the side of the road, which leads to improving the safety and efficiency of commercial vehicles (trucks and buses). Also improving the movement of goods and the reduction of travel time and their cost and maintaining the safety of the goods, and the achievement of safety, especially when it comes to following up dangerous materials.
Smart Transportation application has contributed in increasing the capacity for the management of emergency incidents also contributed in the provision of procedures in the highly efficient cases of traffic emergency and bad weather conditions, and road works, as the advanced technologies used in the Intelligent Transportation Systems focuses on the sensor of the existence of the accidents that leads to improving the response time and sending the appropriate teams to them in terms of individuals and equipments .And improving the ability to manage the requirement for transporting by implementing the system, and the use of neighborhood located for high vehicles, also controlling car parking and their costs, and the use of methods of giving preference of movement and traffic control through streets with light signals in addition to the coordination between the various parties responsible for transportation operations. In addition to improving the efficiency of the road, as the automatic control of the movement of vehicles on the road and the resulting arrangement to the speed of vehicles and the distances between them within each way increases the rush of vehicles rate, which would increase the operational capacity of the road for up to 30%, according to the researches made in this regard.
Also the smart transportation has resulted in increased energy and operational efficiency of the Land Transportation network by increasing speed and reducing interruptions, and reducing the delay when switching between modes of transportation stops, reducing the associated financial costs of the crowd. Also it leads to increasing the capacity for users of existing roads by encouraging the increase in the average capacity of the vehicle, and reducing the operational costs of the infrastructure and achieving an increase in the number of individuals and the amount of goods that can be transferred to facilities of and improving the levels of movement and comfort, as the smart transportation systems contributes in enabling portable workers (drivers) to get information, analyzing and presenting them, and all this in order to help them to move from one place to their desired destination they want to reach, as in this regard the smart transportation systems provide this assistance in the best possible way the travelers need of safety, efficiency and comfort, and to reduce the effects of road transportation on the environment and energy by reducing the exhaust emissions of harmful engines, and reducing wasted fuel due to crowd and not choosing the right way and reducing the noise pollution and the bothering of traffic to residential neighborhoods., as well as reducing the consumption of the environmentally harmful materials.
The study also concluded to several fields for the application of smart transportation in the Kingdom, considering that the Kingdom has the expertise in this field through the application in the city of Mecca where it was seeking for the application of smart transportation in order to reduce traffic crowd experienced by the city in certain time periods because of its importance in the field of religious tourism , and among the smart transportation applications in the city: directing the movement electronically, management of traffic signals, management of positions and control, and the system of traffic lights management, also the management of urgent traffic accidents, but the application fields in other cities of the Kingdom may vary depending on the privacy of each city.
